Mr. Ben Bernstein earned a B.S. in Meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1988 and a M.S. in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University in 1990. During his 18 years as a Research Meteorologist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), he was the co-developer of the FAA Aviation Weather Research Program’s Current Icing Potential (CIP) and Forecast Icing Potential (FIP), which are both operational products run and distributed by the National Weather Service via the Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS). Mr. Bernstein was also the lead icing forecaster for the NASA Glenn Research Center’s Supercooled Large Droplet (SLD) icing programs. His company, Leading Edge Atmospherics, provides forecasting and support for in-flight natural icing certification programs for a wide range of aircraft manufacturers.
